Jan and Anita Van Gilst and their two sons and a daughter have an orchard and vegetable garden, Hilltop Orchards, in the hills west of Glen Miller.
Russett Farms started when Donna and Gerald bought the dairy farm at Wellmans Corners in 1959. Through the years Russett Farms have diversified and it now covers 800 acres.
Betty Jean and Colin Crews, and their son Colin, farm in Murray Ward, City of Quinte West. Their home farm is in a sheltered valley in the Murray Hills. They have orchards with the rows of apple trees running up the hillside. The Crews also grow asparagus, strawberries and other vegetables.
Norm and Fred McCaw live at 1071 Harrington Road, R.R.#2, Frankford. They used to be dairy farmers but now rear beef cattle, cash crop and growing soft fruit, apples and vegetables. They took over West Moira Orchards on the 537 Moira Street West in October 2007 from Kurt and Karen Kaiser. The Roadside store is on the south side of West Moira Road and the 100 acre farm is on the north side.
Rosemary and Bob Gates run an orchard on the Stockdale Road, north of Trenton, in Quinte West, just look for the happy apple sign. They have a variety of apples including Quinte, Vista Bella, Macs, Royal Gala, Spy, Cortland, Russets, Red Delicious, Empire, Spartan, Granny Smith and Crispin.
The Gates start picking in late July and continue until October. You can purchase apples at the Trenton Farmers’ Market or at the farm gate.
They bought the place in 1974 as greenhorns and have certainly come a long way. They have been vendors at the Trenton Farmers’ Market since 1975. They also sell maple syrup made by their son Joey and honey made by their son Bobbie.
Judy and Larry Kupecz run an herbicide and pesticide free apple orchard and sheep farm on Wellmans Corner Road in Stirling-Rawdon.
Randy and Diana McPherson welcome you to Grills Orchards just west of Belleville. Grills Orchards has been serving customers in the Quinte area for over 80 years. In 2008, Randy and Diana had owned Grills Orchards for 10 years.
“We are an east central Ontario apple grower and retailer selling a wide variety of Ontario apples,” said Diana McPherson. “We think it is important to keep growing Ontario’s 12 favorite apples.”
The Cooney family, Mav and Linda, Rodney and Lisa run The Apple Store, on their farm five miles north of Stirling.
In 1989, Charlen Organic Farm started out by growing about one acre of produce and selling only at Brighton’s Farmer’s Market.
