David and Gillian Mullins live on Wilson Road in Centre Hastings. They have a flock of sheep selected for their wool. Their sheep are crossbred between Corriedale, Romney and Bluefaced Leicester. Gillian is an expert spinner and sells fine wool, rovings and blended batts in different colours, from white through greys and browns to almost black.
Gillian is a member of the Quinte Spinners and Weavers Guild. She is experimenting with growing and using Indigo (Indigofera tinctoriato) to make the well known blue dye and dying wool with it.
This year 2009 is the UN Year of Natural Fibres
Gillian Mullins is growing indigo plants and using the leaves to make he well known bright-blue dye. She can give advice on dyeing wool.
Gillian Mullins turns wool into rovings using a hand-turned carder. She dyes the wool and has been using indigo to get a soft blue colour.
Gillian and David Mulliins rear sheep for wool and have selected breeds that have high quality wool good for spinning and with a variety of colours.
