Dennis McCarrell , with his sons, rear certified organic beef at their farm on Maple Road in Stirling-Rawdon. McCarrell decided to become a certified organic farmer ten years ago as it fits with his idealism. “I think it is crazy we poison everything we eat,” said McCarrell.
He finds there is lots to learn about farming organically and many of the old skills have to be relearned. As the cost of fuel, fertilizers and other chemicals goes up he thinks more and more farmers will move towards organic farming.
They farm 150 acres and rear 50 cows. They feed the calves on corn, oats and barley grown on the farm.
They sell their beef through
180 Maple Road,
Stirling.
