The Honey House established in 1981 by David and Mary VanderDussen and their family is now run as Twin Sisters Hive and Apairy Productswhich sells products from River Valley Apiaries.

River Valley Apiaries now operates 400 colonies in 19 different locations from Campbellford to Trenton. The bees are raised as livestock and are rented out every spring and summer to local farmers for pollination of strawberries, apples, blueberries, raspberries, etc.

David VanderDussen now heads NOD Apairy Products Limited, which is in the bee protection business. Recently he won the Innovation Award at the Ontario Association of Community Futures Development Corporation’s (OACFDC) at the 15th Annual Conference held in Stratford.

NOD Apiary Products Ltd. was formed in 1997 to provide ways to control parasitic mites of the honey bee. Their first product, Mite-Away™, immediately showed promise, and an improved product, Mite-AwayII™, soon followed. David Vander Dussen

In 2008 NOD Apiary Products received the Ontario Premier’s Award for Excellence for Agri-Food Innovation. Premier Dalton McGuinty recognized their work for the organic control of the mites that have been plaguing beekeepers, a leading cause in the study of Colony Collapse Disorder.

Beeswax candles, The Honey House

River Valley Apiaries is now making beeswax candles. Beeswax candles purify the air without adding artifical perfumes. Beeswax is made by bees and therefore it is renewable. The petroleum based waxes often used for commercial candles comes from non renewable fossil fuels.
