The Red Steer is a traditional butcher's shop run by Duane Wingett and Julie Main. Dwayne started working in his butcher's shop in Lakefield when he was 10 years old and has been in the business ever since. He ran an abattoir in Peterbourgh for 12 years or he knows his beef.
Bob Palmateer runs Palmateer’s Abattoir on the Crookston Road west of Tweed. He has a butcher shop there where one can buy fresh meat as well as frozen meats.
Brenda Sine sells beef reared by her husband Tony and son John at the Ponderosa Farm Beef Outlet. She has many repeat customers who come back because they love the flavour of the beef.
Hastings County Meat Packers has a freezer meat business, seling beef and pork, bacon and ham as well as sausages and jerky. The store is closed on Thursdays.
Kim and Jean Hadwen run The Farm Meat Shoppe, at Tuckers Corners, Quinte West. They sell home grown Black Angus beef and pork by the piece. They also sell cheese, eggs, honey and maple syrup all ingredients one can use for home baking. “The taste of our meat speaks for itself,” say Jeanne and Kim Hadwen. It is home-grown quality, hormone free, naturally-fed with no animal by products. The meat is government inspected. There are excellent quality cuts of meat for grilling, roasting slow cooking or stewing. The Black Angus roasts are prime rib, sirloin, rib eye, strip loin, sirloin and tip blade. Other Black Angus products are ground beef, stewing meat, boneless beef, jerky, soup bones, liver, heart and tongue. Pork cuts include butt chops, loin chops, pork roasts, butt roasts, pork steaks, bacon, spare ribs, ground pork, pork/beef sausages, pork breakfast sausages, soup bones and hocks.
