Magnificant Hill

The Hill: Located 20 minutes south of Algonquin Provincial Park and in the hills of Highland Grove, ON. is a Magnificent Hill. A home and a life-style for both Lea and Dee, where we are learning and developing ways to become as self sufficient and sustainable as possible. We strive to live in harmony with our earth, water and air. We are practicing and developing better ways to grow our food and raise our animals in a chemical free environment.

The Environment: We are truly blessed and grateful to be the caretakers of this land. There is nothing better than planting a seed and allowing it to grow naturally. We offer a variety of seasonal produce and fruits that have been able to grow without adding chemicals. Our soil is tested yearly and we only add organic products to improve the quality. The result is realized in every tasty bite.

Our Animals: All have an unique roll and place on the Hill. Some of the animals are for breeding and others are being raised for food. Of course we will always have some around for company to each other and as pets.

Our Guests:  On Magnificent Hill our hope is to provide an opportunity for individuals (such as Wwoofer’s, Backpackers, Artists, Musicians and groups) to experience rejuvenation and personal growth resulting in a positive and peaceful change. Choose from dorm style accommodations to camping in your own tent on our 100 acre farm.

Northey Stables Farm

Northey Stables is a small family farm located in Thomasburg, ON. Marie and Fred Northey purchased the farm in the early 80s, and over the years have kept a wide variety of livestock. The farm is now home to a small sugar bush (though it doesn't seem small when you're the one collecting sap!), a flock of sheep, two donkeys, and some beautiful Rhode Island Red chickens  as well as some "Banty" (Bantam) hens.

It is also home (again) to me!

My name is Laura. I am Marie and Fred's youngest daughter. After trying my hand in the "working world," I decided that I needed a different kind of work to make me feel fulfilled. Last summer, I spent seven months on a small organic farm in Nova Scotia, learning how to make a living doing what I love: growing vegetables. This will be my first season running a small CSA on my parents' property.

More than anything, what matters to me is ensuring that our farm has healthy soil that grows healthy food. This means using organic practices, feeding the soil first, and working toward a farm that is a self-sustaining system. Customers of Northey Stables can feel assured that they are supporting a very small local farmer, and but also supporting healthier food and a healthier local community.

In 2013, my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program will be small and somewhat experimental, but will lay the groundwork for years to come. Please visit my web site to find out more!
