Lion and Raquilda van Zoeren and their three children have lived, since 2003, on the old Hungerford Road near Thomasburg on a 135 acre farm. Lion and Raquilda are from Holland and they met at the Ottawa Tulip Festival. Lion was playing music and Raquilda was selling Dutch products. They run their farm using horse power as well as tractor power. They have six heavy horses; two Clydesdale mares, a Shire, two Belgians and one Belgian/Clydesdale cross. Three years ago they started romantic sleigh rides through the woods and around the fields.
The sleigh ride is approximately 50 minutes long and can fit 10 - 12 people, and comes complete with sleigh bells jingling and hot chocolate. Give the van Zoeren's a call at 613-478-2604. (It doesn't have to be Christmas memories, they can do wagon rides all year long).
Harold and Rose Enright run Happy Valley Farm near Read in Tyendinaga. Harold is an expert horseman and uses his pairs of Belgian horses for sleigh rides for special events, for logging in the winter and for working on the farm in summer.
Stephen and Vicki Maines and their three children are diversifying their farm into agri-tourism. The Maines family invites your family to make a visit to the Maines Harvest Farm pumpkin patch a fun part of your Thanksgiving and Halloween traditions.
Autumn 2012 - Unfortunately Maines Harvest Farm will not be opening their pumpkin patch to the public this year. The one torrential spring rain that occurred, washed away a lot of the newly planted seeds, then the severe lack of summer rain further hampered the crop and now an overabundance of pumpkin beetles are feasting on what little is left! We will be disappointed not to visit with all of our faithful autumn visitors but hope springs eternal with farmers and we hope to have a spectactular crop in Autumn 2013. Hope to see you then.
Cec and Caroline Stamp run Rockfield Farm, in Boulter in the Hastings Highlands. They have draft horses and you can arrange to go on wagon and sleigh rides.
