They rear the Welsh Mountain sheep. This is a rare breed and there are only 800 in Canada. Welsh Mountain Sheep is a small dual purpose breed that provides excellent mild mutton and a completely black, dense, durable fleece.
There is nothing better then planting a seed and watching your food grow. On Magnificent Hill we strive to produce all the food we need to sustain ourselves and our guests
Our vegetable garden starts in our living room early in the Spring and we preserve as much as possible to make it through the long winter months. We have begun saving our Heirloom and open pollinated seeds for future plantings. We have planted an organic vineyard with four 75’ rows of grapes, an orchard with several varieties of fruit trees conducive to a cold northern climate, and other small fruits and berries.
Our homestead has been completely pesticide-free since we bought the farm in 2002. Our intention has been to create a small, sustainable homestead that could produce its chemical free fruits and vegetables using appropriate regional varieties and small-scale methods of growing. We raise our own livestock including chickens, goats and pigs and do as much as we can to prepare them for the feast.
We salvage building materials and create unique and useful living spaces. This year we plan to build a permanent greenhouse with an outdoor kitchen which will include a smoke house and clay oven in the court yard. We encourage you to take part throughout the year to learn about living sustainable in a modern society. Please call or email for rates and availability if you are interested in taking part and learning with us. school and group rates available.
We sell at the farm also during the summer, we have vegetables, fruits, goat milk soap, beeswax candles, honey, Maple Syrup, Jams, Breads, Pies, eggs. Please drop by to see what's in season.
Northey Stables is a small family farm located in Thomasburg, ON. Marie and Fred Northey purchased the farm in the early 80s, and over the years have kept a wide variety of livestock. The farm is now home to a small sugar bush (though it doesn't seem small when you're the one collecting sap!), a flock of sheep, two donkeys, and some beautiful Rhode Island Red chickens as well as some "Banty"(Bantam) hens.
It is also home (again) to me!
My name is Laura. I am Marie and Fred's youngest daughter. After trying my hand in the "working world," I decided that I needed a different kind of work to make me feel fulfilled. Last summer, I spent seven months on a small organic farm in Nova Scotia, learning how to make a living doing what I love: growing vegetables. This will be my first season running a small CSA on my parents' property.
More than anything, what matters to me is ensuring that our farm has healthy soil that grows healthy food. This means using organic practices, feeding the soil first, and working toward a farm that is a self-sustaining system. Customers of Northey Stables can feel assured that they are supporting a very small local farmer, and but also supporting healthier food and a healthier local community.
In 2013, my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program will be small and somewhat experimental, but will lay the groundwork for years to come. Please visit my web site to find out more!

Stephen and Vicki Maines and their three children are diversifying their farm into agri-tourism. The Maines family invites your family to make a visit to the Maines Harvest Farm pumpkin patch a fun part of your Thanksgiving and Halloween traditions.
Autumn 2012 - Unfortunately Maines Harvest Farm will not be opening their pumpkin patch to the public this year. The one torrential spring rain that occurred, washed away a lot of the newly planted seeds, then the severe lack of summer rain further hampered the crop and now an overabundance of pumpkin beetles are feasting on what little is left! We will be disappointed not to visit with all of our faithful autumn visitors but hope springs eternal with farmers and we hope to have a spectactular crop in Autumn 2013. Hope to see you then.
