Green Gardens is a small family owned and operated, un-certified organic producer of vegetables. Many of our varieties are heirloom varieties. Also we cultivate varieties of corn, beans, garlic, legumes, squash, flowers, and herbs that are indigenous to North America. We produce seasonal vegetables, and greens, as well as three varieties of strawberries. Everything is 100% organically grown with quality, sustainabilty and biodiversity in mind. Green Gardens is just in her beginning stages on a modest five acres, with a newly added greenhouse this year. Our goal is to work together with those who wish to look into the future and come natural ways to maximize yields, both product and soil quality in order to feed our neighbors the best food in the world.
For many years David Twiddy ran a dairy farm with his father the late Ross Twiddy. Dave was a well known spokesperson for the dairy industry often speaking on CBC. A few years ago Dave's life changed, he went to Loyalist Collage to study civil engineering, and this long-time bachelor got married. He found looking after 100 dairy cows were too much work, while he was studying, so he sold them and planted strawberries instead.
"I always wanted to try strawberries," said Dave. "I had the time and the opportunity. We are going about it gradually. We planted 7,000 in one year and are now up to 1600. He and and his wife Deb had to plant 1600 strawberries in two days by hand. They have now invested in a strawberry planter as it was back breaking work.
