Jan and Anita Van Gilst and their two sons and a daughter have an orchard and vegetable garden, Hilltop Orchards, in the hills west of Glen Miller. They have an attractive farm shop at the end of their drive. Jan and Anita started the orchard 24 years ago and have planted new trees ever five or six years . The orchard now covers 15 acres and they have 15 varieties of apples as well as pears, and plums. They also have 12 acres of corn and two acres of five or six varieites of tomatoes, peppers both mild and hot peppers and also onions, garlic and squash.
