Many of the ingredients are produced by Harvest Hastings farmers.

Like a slice of Paris in downtown Belleville, L'Auberge de France offers an authenic French dining experience without the need for a passport.  Whether you're in the mood for a casual lunch, an intimate dinner for two or gathering with friends for drinks and entertainment, our bistro is the place to be. Aside from the fine dining we also offer the unique "je ne sai quoi" of a gourmet specialty food shop. Come in to shop for that special something to give some flare to your week-night cooking or to find a gift for your favourite 'foodie'. 

The chef Jean-Marc Salvagno hails from Avignon, France where he owned a critically acclaimed restaurant featuring Provencal dishes. He has been a professional Chef since graduating from Brevet d‘Études Professionnelles de Cuisine in 1988.

Jean-Marc has been a member of the French Sommeliers Union since 1993. Exceptionally educated in this vocation, he has attended many wine tasting events in the Toronto region.

His Muse, Valerie Niles, was originally from Trenton, met Jean-Marc in France and "returned to her roots" to help make the dream of L'Auberge come true. From its inception, L'Auberge de France was seen as a place where Jean-Marc could work to create a unique culinary experience for the population of his new hometown. 

With courage and inspiration Valerie left us. Her passion that helped start L'Auberge can be felt within the walls of the Bistro. Jean Marc continues to support The Princess Margaret Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Tanya Dutton is the Bakery and Gourmet Shop manger. She has been indulging in serving French foods as the head of the gourmet shop at L’Auberge de France, for over two years. An adventurous advocate for great tasting food, Tanya's experience at L’Auberge, has served to expand her knowledge of culinary delicacies.

On her days off, Tanya can be found scouring the surrounding area for season ingredients, small farms and local artisan cheeses. Small gourmet shops and interesting restaurants are an integral part to her lifestyle. Visiting these tiny culinary jewels gives her inspiration for our own shop. Through her love for food, Tanya has gained insight and knowledge into the plentiful epicurean products arranged on our shelves. Gastronomy aside, Tanya loves her job because of the people she meets every day. Tanya’s friendly and approachable personality, can convert  even the most inexperienced guests into passionate ’foodies’. She always enjoys answering questions regarding ingredients and encourages guests to embark on new food adventures. Whether you are looking for an unique gift arrangement or an eclectic selection of cheeses, Tanya’s gracious and helpful approach will make your French food selection more enjoyable.
