Our garden has changed over the past 15 years from a cow pasture to a pig field to a small domestic garden to a large vegetable garden of about half an acre. It is a mixed vegetable garden on sandy loam soil. We use organic methods and no chemicals and sell our locally grown vegetables at Stirling Farmers Market
We have increased the organic content of the soil by adding lots of well-rotted manure and compost. We don’t use any sprèays. We have tried to select our crops so we have a progression through the season. The season starts with asparagus, and goes through peas, beets, and carrots, to beans, corn, onions, squash, tomatoes and pumpkins. We have a small beef cow calf operation on the 90 acre farm on the north slope of the Oak Hills. The farm is called Springhill because of the number of springs flowing from the side of the hill down into the Rawdon Creek.
We have a small beef cow calf operation on the 90 acre farm on the north slope of the Oak Hills. Beef are reared soley on grass and hay. We have grass fed beef for sale in the fall.
We have a hop yard with eight different varieties of hops and are setting up a small micro brewery, brewing beer using our own hops and barley. Hops are used to flavour the beer.
In 2010 Barry Danford and Sons Contacting helped us pull down our old barn and build a new one. Watch Demolishing a barn and building another.
