There will be no backyard chickens in Tweed

At the November 22 council meeting Tweed municipal council discussed a bylaw to permit the keeping of backyard chickens and the persons and property committee has made the recommendation that council NOT adopt a bylaw to permit the keeping of chickens on residential and rural residential properties. The zoning and land use bylaw does not permit the keeping of any livestock on properties which are zoned residential and rural residential. Staff obtained sample bylaws from two neighbouring municipalities that allow the keeping of chickens subject to regulations.
