Energy Efficiency - Healthy Housing Workshop: The Marmora Environmental Advisory Committee (MEAC) will be hosting a free public workshop on housing efficiency, health and sustainability in Marmora Tuesday, November 25, at 7:00 p.m. at the Marmora Town Hall, 12 Bursthall Street.
This is the second workshop in a series presented by the MEAC, a Committee of Council formed early in 2008. It aims to help individuals improve the efficiency, environmental health and sustainability of their homes. It should be of interest to homeowners/renters, particularly those with older homes, renovators and to anyone concerned/interested in housing efficiency and health. The topics are especially pertinent given the rising costs of energy and the growing concerns over climate change and housing-related health and environmental issues.
The speaker is Thomas Marek, an Energy and Environmental Health Consultant and member of the Marmora Environmental Advisory Committee. Recently having moved to Marmora, Marek, an Energy Conservation Technologist from Ontario, moved to BC 20 years ago after serving two years as Energy Services Advisor for Brampton Hydro. There he worked under BC Hydro's PowerSmart Program and established a non-profit organization that dealt with housing and environmental concerns.
Marek has inspected thousands of homes in BC and Ontario, led energy retrofits on hundreds of homes and consulted in 1st Nations housing in the extreme north. He has given numerous talks on building efficiency and environmental health topics and to wide variety of audiences, including, among others, local governments, nursing students and his favourite, healthy babies programs.
This workshop is supported by Broadbent's Home Hardware and Drummond's BMR, who have provided door prizes for the event. For more information, please contact Thomas Marek at 613 472-5989 or energy [at] persona [dot] ca
