Sustainability

The County of Hastings County includes Hastings County, the City of Belleville and the City of Quinte West and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, with its forests, farmland, lakes, rivers and small and large communities, is well situated to lead in the field of alternative energy development, conservation of natural resources,  sustainable agriculture and forestry and artisan food production. 

Harvest Hastings is about living lightly on the land. Sustainability has four sections on land stewardship, tree planting, managing woods and wildlife at  Caring for Land; discussion about Climate Change; finfd out about Green Communities, and read about what's happening in Local Agriculture. Harvest Hastings Annual Meeting

Harvest Hastings will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, January 20 at the Moira Community Hall, 29 Carson Road, Moira. There will be a simple dinner made with local meat and and produce served at 6 p.m.

New website for North Hastings and Area Farmers and Landowners Association

The North Hastings and Area Farmers and Landowners Association has a new website. The association will try to ensure the farmer's and landowner's right to enjoy their property without interference from unmanaged wild animal populations. We will attempt to do this through working with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and various government ministries concerned with the specific issues.

Brian and Jennifer Davis rear Boer goats at Firefly Lane Farm in Stirling-Rawdon, Ontario. Boer goats are meat goats  which originated in South African. They were introduced to Canada in 1992.
