Vern Peacock operates Peacock Farms in the small town of Hermon located 14 miles east of Bancroft, Ontario. Vern has a small herd of mixed beef cattle and grows hay, barley, oats and buckwheat. Manure, and buckwheat plowed when green, is used to grow the crops since no commercial fertilizer is used. The calves are weaned in the fall and fed grain and hay for roughage for approximately seven months until they are grown and fat enough to be processed.
The calves are all fed with grain and hay and DO NOT receive any growth implants. Vern sells sides, quarters and individual cuts of beef. The beef is cut and wrapped locally at North Country Packers located on the Detlor Road just 10 minutes east of Bancroft.
