If you are willing to travel a bit off the beaten path, you will find Romard Lumber, a small mill that is well worth the visit. Paul Romard’s full service mill is located at 442 Salmon Lake Rd. in Gooderham. Paul, the sole owner, pretty much does it all. He is a one-man band and has been operating his mills for about 30 years. He has an interesting array of saws and finishing milling equipment, including a saw that can cut two faces of the log simultaneously, and a planer/moulder that can do four sides simultaneously.
When you go to see Paul, be sure to give yourself lots of time, as he is a walking, talking encyclopedia of knowledge related to lumber, milling, and all things forest and wood related. He has managed his 150 acres of property to be able to sell some of his own wood, and he has planted thousands of trees on his property as well.
Paul does mostly custom work for contractors and private woodlot owners, as many people like to use lumber from their own trees. Paul can cut and dry your wood and provides an excellent finished product.
