Forests Ontario offers workshops where you can learn about tree flowering, development of seed and details on cone and seed collecting and how Forests Ontario purchases seed for their tree planting programs.
Forests Ontario’s Tree Seed Crop Forecasting workshop will be held on June 16 at the O'Hara Mill Homestead, 638 Mill Rd., just north of Madoc. 9:00 – 3:30. The workshop will be free and a light lunch and refreshments will be provided. See a demonstration of the water-powered sawmill too!
Our intent will be to help you understand what constitutes a collectible crop on various species as well as build your observation skills and understanding of tree flowering and hopefully obtain feedback from you regarding flowering on tree species in your area.
We will conduct the class session of the workshop in the log house at O'Hara's, view samples, then do a walk around the grounds to view seed and cone development on mature trees.
Please contact Pat at Forests Ontario to register if you think this workshop is something you would like to attend, 416-646-1193. Space is limited to about 18 participants.
Also, I invite you to visit the Forests Ontario website at www.forestsontario.ca to view information on Forests Ontario's tree planting, education and stewardship programs.
Feel free to contact me if you require additional information.
Thank you for your interest.
