An invasive species of insect that has devastated hemlock forests in the northeastern seaboard of the U.S. has made its way into Ontario.
It’s the hemlock woolly adelgid, a native of Japan.
“It’s a small sap-sucking insect about the size of an aphid,” explained Taylor Scarr, provincial forest entomologist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
