The Van de Heyden family have been growing vegetables since 1981. Ann and her daughters live and work at Wooler Dale Farm nestled in the Murray Hills.  Ann and her late husband John emigrated from Holland. The growing seasons begins in April with salad greens; asparagus is ready in May and strawberries in June. By mid summer they have eggplant, tomatoes, beans, leeks and more. They grow crops that they can store over the winter like potatoes, squash, carrots, onions, garlic and dried herbs.

Wooler Farm is certified organic. The Canadian Organic Standard is legally regulated and is implemented by Pro_Cert. Food grown on a certified organic farm is grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides and contains no genetically modified organisms (GMO). The Van der Heyden use crop rotation as the best way to avoid problems with pests, diseases, and soil nutrient depletions. Wooler Dale Farm is a member of the Canadian Organic Farmers Cooperative and the Ecological Farmers of Ontario. They sell in Toronto, Kingston, Peterborough and Whitby and through Community Shared Agriculture scheme.
