This year’s Community Trees Giveaway is supported by Hastings Stewardship Council with Quinte Conservation and the municipalities of City of Belleville, City of Quinte West, Centre Hastings, Marmora and Lake, Stirling Rawdon, Tweed, and Tyendinaga. The date is Saturday, April 27, 9 am until supplies run out. Do come early. These trees are bare rooted stock in limited quanities, and are given out to residents in their own municipality. Tree species available this year are white pine, red pine, white spruce, white cedar, sugar maple, white birch, red oak, bur oak, and black cherry. The shrubs are serviceberry, nannyberry, and high bush cranberry.
There are lots of good videos on Youtube showing you how to plant trees.  Do make sure they are at least five metres back from hydro wires. You need to look after your trees. Mulching is good as it helps retain water in the soil. You should water your trees throughout the summer especially when there is a drought.
Please check the location for your municipality. The google map below just lists the location for Stirling Rawdon.
