Last night I lay in bed and counted words to do with food: fast food, slow food, junk food, healthy food, raw food, cooked food, local food, global food, food security, food safety, food sovereignty, food guide, food terminal, food bank, and food-down-the road. This morning, watching Steve bundle up to go to the barn to feed the cows, I thought about farmers for without them to plant the seed , tend the plant and harvest the crop, without them to care for animals, and without the sun, water and soil, there is no food. When a farmer, a hog farmer in Hastings County or a peasant in Paraguay, runs out of money they give up farming and what then, for without the farmer there is no fast food, slow food, junk food, healthy food, raw food, cooked food, local food, global food, food-down-the road, food safety, food sovereignty, food guide, food terminal, food bank, or food security.
