At a time when small abattoirs in rural Ontario are closing we are amazing fortunate a new one opening. Elmer and Eva Wideman, who live near Stirling, bought the former Hastings County Meat Packers. After many months of renovation they have reopened as Hastings Meat Market.
Hastings Meat Market offers custom butchering, specializing in beef, pork, lamb, and goat. They have beef and pork for sale in the retail store, in vacumn packs. One can look though to the cutting room and see everything is very clean. Elmer and his family moved to Stirling for St. Jacobs and he is going to have traditional summer sausage to sample. He hopes to have a smoker operating soon.
Butcher Paul Nicholson has 20 years experience in the meat trade and Earla Nicholson has 40 years experience.
At present, kill day is Monday, but they hope to switch to Wednesday. They can vacumn pack meat for a small extra charge and provide labelling for full traceability.
