Read about the Lumber Baron Thomas Peter Pearce, who founded the Pearce Company and who built mills in Marmora. He owned and logged 23,000 acres in Hastings County alone. He also had a large woollen mill in Marmora manufacturing 50,000 pounds of wool in 1892. There must have been a large number of sheep in Hastings County. The Marmora Historical Society has a wonderful website full of interesting stories, such as this one, as well as an interesting museum at 32 Forsyth Street, Marmora.
